You could just ask whatever girl you choose at the dance to dance with you! OR If you see a girl you think is hot and she's dancing alone with her friends, you could always just slide up behind her and grind. That usually works, at least what I've seen several times. Some girls would enjoy that, especially at that kind of dance. Once you guys are done dancing, just talk to her casually. You don't need to know each other like you said, but just small talk with her. Then, dance with her another time if she's up for it.
